The New York Times reports that Trump’s attempt to end the DACA program for DREAMers is blocked by the Sumpre Court:
The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the Trump administration may not immediately proceed with its plan to end a program protecting about 700,000 young immigrants known as Dreamers from deportation.
Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. wrote the majority opinion, joined by the court’s four more liberal members.
The court’s ruling was a blow to one of President Trump’s central campaign promises — that as president he would “immediately terminate” an executive order by former President Barack Obama that Mr. Trump had called an illegal executive amnesty for hundreds of thousands of young immigrants.
There are approximately 15,000 people with DACA in Nassau and Suffolk counties and 700,000 nationwide. You can read a full copy of the decision here.
The decision is based on the Trump administration’s violations of the Administrative Procedures Act in issuing the order terminating the DACA program. Expect Team Trump to try to clean up the mess it made with its incompetent lawyering and try to issue a new termination order. This will likely face another injunction, delaying any final decision until after the end of Trump’s term.
