
I often hear racists refer to immigrants as “illegals.” In fact, a person born outside of the United States who lives on Long Island is much more likely to be a United States citizen than he or she is to be undocumented. There are approximately 100,000 undocumented immigrants on Long Island, but there are nearly 290,000 immigrants who have become United States citizens. According to research from the Fiscal Policy Institute, six out of ten Long Island immigrants are U.S. citizens. Here are the stats:
