On Friday, Sept. 19, Welcoming Long Island partnered with Long Island Jobs with Justice to bring together the largest collection of faith leaders on Long Island. The event, part of National Welcoming Week 2014, included Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, Islamic, and Unitarian leaders. Their purpose was to call on their neighbors and colleagues to treat children fleeing Central America and seeking refuge on Long Island with compassion and dignity.
Below are some of the speeches and prayers from the event.
Father William Brisotti, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Roman Catholic Church
Sister Margaret Smyth, North Fork Spanish Apostolate
Carmen Maquilon, Catholic Charities Office of Immigrant Services
Pastor Dennis Walker, Holy Cross Lutheran Church
