While most of the Federal immigration system closed down in New York on Monday, the Immigration Courts stayed open. Today the United States Justice Department announced that the Immigration Courts at 26 Federal Plaza and on Broadway in New York City are both now closed for all hearings. The only court remaining open is at the Varick Street Detention Center, and that is only hearing cases for detained immigrants. Some courts outside of New York remain open.
