At his speech yesterday in Brentwood, Donald Trump told police that they should “rough”-up Latino immigrants taken into custody. This prompted a response from the Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD) which said that:
“The SCPD has strict rules & procedures relating to the handling of prisoners. Violations of those rules are treated extremely seriously.”
The police who are most involved in working to end MS-13 violence said that:
“As a department, we do not and will not tolerate roughing up of prisoners.”
Trump’s rambling and nearly incoherent speech advocated police violence against people of color while making a whole host of self-aggrandizing statements. You can read more about the speech here.
