More than 60,000 children from Central America have crossed our southern border seeking refuge in the U.S. since October 2013. These children are being temporarily cared for throughout the U.S., including here on Long Island, before being connected with family members.

Long Island Wins aims to help accurately inform Long Islanders on the root causes of this humanitarian crisis. We will also discuss different aspects of this crisis, including legal options for these children, what U.S. law is not providing, what it means to Long Island, and what Long Islanders can do about it.

Starting this week, we will publish a new series called The Truth About Child Refugees that provides facts and clear information about what triggered this dramatic increase in child migration. Please look for our first installment September 3.
