Renewal period ends September 6..

Tuesday, Sept. 6, is the last day for Salvadorans with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to renew their status. Salvadorans were first granted TPS in 2001 and this is a renewal period for those who already have been granted TPS in the past.

Although the TPS renewal period ends on Tuesday, past practice indicates that if a Salvadoran misses the deadline, applications postmarked by September 9 will be accepted as filed on time. In fact, many practitioners report that even renewals filed significantly later will be accepted by the Department of Homeland Security.

Both Catholic Charities and CARECEN assist with renewals for a nominal fee. You can reach CARECEN at 516-489-8330 in Hempstead and 631-273-8759 in Brentwood. Catholic Charities in Amityville is at 631-789-5210.
