The economic benefits of immigration reform are clear. By bringing 11 million undocumented immigrants from out of the shadows, you increase wages, increase tax revenue and increase overall productivity and GDP (gross domestic product).
Despite reports concluding otherwise, countless experts and analysts have determined that immigration reform will have a net positive impact on the American economy.
Add to that more than 3 million new jobs in the first decade.
According to the Social Security Actuary, which conducts estimates regarding Social Security, under the Senate’s immigration reform bill, about 3.22 million new jobs would be created by 2024. GDP would increase 1.63% as well.
“We estimate a significant increase in both the population and the number of workers paying taxes in the United States as a result of these changes in legal immigration limits,” wrote Stephen C. Goss, Chief Actuary in a letter to Senator Marco Rubio.
Senator Rubio’s office had tapped the Social Security Actuary to produce an analysis of the proposed immigration reform bill.
With all of the factually incorrect reports and analyses being passed around by anti-immigration conservatives in an effort to derail immigration reform, here is a report from the Social Security Actuary providing clear analysis as to how immigration reform would benefit the American economy.
The push for immigration reform must continue forward as the Senate Judiciary Committee considers the more than 300 amendments proposed by our elected officials. Now is the time that we contact our senators and let them know how important reform is to us and to the American economy.
