On October 2, 2020, the fee to apply for Citizenship will nearly double, from $640 to $1,170. This inexcusable increase is the latest attack by the current administration in Washington on immigrants. As an immigration lawyer with 35 years of experience, I urge anyone who is eligible to become a citizen to apply now, before the fees go up. Applications filed before October 2 will be accepted at the $640 fee level.

There are three non-profit legal service agencies on Long Island that are handling these Naturalization applications. All three charge low fees to apply. They are:

CARECEN 516-489-8330 (Hempstead and Brentwood)

Catholic Charities 631-789-5210 (Amityville and other locations)

CLA (516) 210-6763 (Garden City)

Because all three groups are receiving a large volume of calls for appointments, you should not wait until the last minute to call.
