So far, more than 82,000 undocumented immigrants have applied for the new Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program for DREAMers just a month after the application period began. 63,000 have been scheduled for biometrics. Biometrics is a fancy name for fingerprints and photographs. 1,600 have already had biometrics taken and are on the way to a final decision.
Statistics indicate that about 7% of those believed to be eligible to apply have already done so. At $465 per application, Homeland Security has received more than $30 million in fees. Unlike some other immigration programs which saw confusion in their early months, this program seems to be moving ahead quickly.
