Organizers from SEPA Mujer, CASA, NYCLU and LIISA were delighted yesterday with the large turnout for the start of the Greenlight New York campaign on Long Island. The campaign is pushing for legislation in the state legislature that would allow immigrants to apply for driver’s licenses regardless of their immigration status.

Martha Maffei of SEPA Mujer said that local groups worked hard to turn out two hundred supporters of Green Light New York in the East End village. She said that State Senate Bill 1747 would allow immigrants who meet all the normal requirements to drive to take the tests to obtain a license. Half a dozen organizations turned out people for the rally.
