We currently have an immediate opening for a full time Program Coordinator, who provides an atmosphere of hospitality for all those they come in contact with through the Long Island Immigration Clinic (LIIC) Program. The Program Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and supervision of the onsite and remote immigration clinic program. The individual will be responsible for designing and implementing clinic procedures, the recruitment and training of volunteers; case management and filing of applications, and networking and developing collaborative relationships with partner organizations in
the community. The Long Island Immigration Clinic is a brand new program and initiative, the result of a group of advocates – organizations and faith-based congregations who saw the growing need to assist individuals with their asylum and other immigration related paperwork. You will be part of helping create and implement this pro se clinic to assist our neighbors.
· Responsible for the coordination and supervision of the onsite and remote clinic program. This will include creating and implementing clinic procedures and intake process; assuring for the maintenance and updating of the LIIC data base system and its case files.
· Oversee the court filing of pro-se I-589 and other immigration documents.
Volunteer Training & Supervision
· With support and guidance of Project Director & Advisory Board, conduct ongoing recruitment for clinic volunteers (i.e., 3 person teams, attorneys, transportation teams) and identify new volunteer roles based on identified needs.
· Maintain volunteer files database.
· Periodic evaluation of volunteer program – recruitment and training.
· Create pro-se teams (interpreter/ computer person/ note taker) based on caseload needs.
· Maintain regular communication with volunteers through LIIC newsletter, updates etc.
· Provide volunteer update trainings – i.e., procedures, changes in immigration law.
· Disseminate information about the clinic services to referral agencies, i.e., outreach centers, food
pantries, immigrant direct-service agencies, congregations, etc.
· In conjunction with the Project Director maintain networking relationships with Immigrant directservices and advocacy agencies for potential referrals.
· Establish and maintain a productive working relationship with US Customs and Immigration Services
(USCIS) staff at its various locations.
· Liaise with the Immigration Lawyers’ Advisory Committee.
Financial and Office Management
· Maintain monthly LIIC income/expenses records as required by Project Director.
· Keep up-to-date in immigration policies and laws through webinars and training.
· Minimum of three years of experience in community-based services, social work, legal services, public
administration or related field.
· Bachelor’s degree in Human or Social Services, or related field. Masters in Social Work is a plus.
· Bilingual in Spanish; Haitian Creole a plus.
· Knowledge of social justice, community organizing, and experience working with immigrants.
· Understanding of the U.S. government’s refugee, asylum, temporary protection status (TPS) and deportation proceedings and law.
· Familiarity and ease with computer technology and online databases.
· Ability to provide effective written and verbal communication.
· Demonstrated abilities in planning and organization.
· Ability to interact well with diverse individuals and groups.
