State Senator Monica Martinez’s senate district includes the communities of Brentwood, Central Islip, and Patchogue. These are among the most immigrant-rich communities in Suffolk County. They include many undocumented immigrants who are currently shut off from applying for a driver’s license.
Call Monica Martinez this week to urge her to support the fight to pass the legislation (S01747) that expands access to driver’s licenses for New York State residents regardless of immigration status. Tell her to join the Green Light New York campaign and co-sponsor S01747.
Currently twelve states have expanded access to driver’s licenses to motorists regardless of immigration status. However, New York bars over 800,000 undocumented immigrants from obtaining driver’s licenses. Providing access to driver’s licenses is an important matter of public safety, community integration, and economic growth that will strengthen New York communities.
You can call Sen. Martinez at (518) 455-2950.
