LGBT Immigration Call-In a Success

Thanks to everyone who joined in the call-in for Immigration Equality for LGBT families on Wednesday. I know that a lot of you shared the call-in info with your social networks. Calls were made to Senator Schumer, who is among the senators leading the effort to draft comprehensive immigration reform legislation.

We had both the Hudson Valley Community Coalition and New York State Immigrant Action Fund join the effort, so our call for fairness went way beyond Long Island.

Make the Road New York and Long Island Jobs With Justice went to SUNY Stony Brook and worked with a student LGBTQ group to make calls to Senator Schumer. They reported that 150 calls were made on campus. Radio Fiesta also asked listeners to make calls and at least 50 people confirmed by text that they did.

This has been a historic week for the LGBT community and we need to make sure that immigrants are included.
