Koreans on Long Island Show Support for the New York DREAM Act

This past Sunday, the MinKwon Center for Community Action organized a day of action on Long Island in support of the New York DREAM Act. The bill would remove restrictions that block undocumented students from receiving state tuition assistance.

Nearly 500 community members signed petitions at the Korean supermarket H-Mart in Williston Park, as well as at the Yale Korean Presbyterian Church and Evergreen Presbyterian Church, both in Hicksville.

The petition drive was aimed at Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos ahead of a meeting today between advocates and representatives from his office. With only 14 legislative session days left, time is running out for the New York State legislature to pass the DREAM.
