Position: Community Organizer
Organization: Long Island Wins is looking for a community organizer for its Welcoming Long Island initiative
Organizational Profile
Long Island Wins is a non-profit organization that works to promote immigration solutions that work for everyone, rooted in respect and dignity for all. Welcoming Long Island is a values-based community-building initiative focusing on easing the tensions between native-born Long Islanders and new Americans.
Job Responsibilities
*Coordinate educational and community-building activities to create a more welcoming environment and stronger community
*Develop volunteer welcoming committees and foster leadership within those committees
*Work with the faith-based community to help facilitate dialogue about immigration within congregations
*Create media materials to promote the initiative, including press releases, photos, and videos
*Track progress of Welcoming Long Island and maintain good contact with Long Island Wins and Welcoming America, the national affiliate of the initiative
Qualifications
*Experience in community organizing (paid and volunteer)
*Creative approach to problem solving, including analytic, strategic, and planning skills
*Ability to travel on Long Island, including a reliable car
*Ability to work evenings and weekends
*Effective public speaking skills
*Basic computer skills and a willingness to expand your skill set
*Preferred: Spanish-language skills, spoken and written
Salary and Benefits
The salary is commensurate with experience and competitive with other non-profits and includes health and dental benefits.
