Permanent residents can get help with applying for citizenship this Saturday.

One of the pleasures of my work is helping permanent residents apply for citizenship. Today, many of my former clients will vote for the first time in primary elections in Nassau and Suffolk as well as in New York City. When I see immigrants whom I helped naturalize on line to vote, I can see my small contribution to the democratic process.

Over the last year, CARECEN has developed a program in which students, under the supervision of myself and another attorney, organize free Citizenship Days where immigrants can find out about the naturalization process and receive assistance in applying.

This Saturday, September 14, we’ll be holding the fourth of our Citizenship Days at the offices of Make the Road New York at 1090 Suffolk Ave. in Brentwood. People wishing to apply should bring their green card, a copy of their last tax return or other proof of income, and their passports. Doors open at 10AM and the last client will be seen at 3PM. For more information, call CARECEN at 516-489-8330.
