We are Jackie Walzer and Catherine Lori, two Long Island Wins interns from Friends Academy. During our time at Long Island Wins, we learned so much about the immigrant experience. We decided to do a video project during our internship because we thought that it would be easy to spread facts about immigration on social media and really grab people’s attention. As seniors at Friends Academy, we thought it would be interesting to hear members of our community talk about their personal experiences; stories that aren’t always shared in the classroom. We also decided to interweave statistics concerning immigration that people may find surprising. We hope that the video addresses misconceptions about immigration, and creates a greater sense of empathy for our new American neighbors.
