House GOP leadership is set to hold a closed-door meeting this Wednesday on immigration reform

A huge hurdle was crossed with the comprehensive immigration reform bill passing the Senate late last month.

The next step, and one that’s sure to be more difficult is the conservative-leaning House of Representatives.

House GOP leadership is set to conduct a closed-door meeting this Wednesday to discuss immigration reform, which could help clear up how the House will move forward on the matter.

House Speaker John Boehner has already said that he won’t allow a vote on the Senate bill, and the House would work on its own piecemeal legislation at its own pace.

The outcome of this meeting could determine what happens next in the push for immigration reform.

It’s imperative that Long Islanders reach out to Peter King to let him know that we want immigration reform.

Here are sample scripts in English and in Spanish:

ENGLISH SCRIPT

“I am from the (town/village/hamlet) of ___________, and I urge the Representative to support comprehensive immigration reform that creates a path to citizenship and reunites families.  I urge the Representative to OPPOSE bills like the SAFE Act, Border Security Results Act, Agricultural Guestworker Act, and SKILLS Visas Act. These are not real reforms to our immigration system. We need immigration reform that creates a path to citizenship and reunites separated families.”
