From May 13-16, a delegation of a dozen people will head from Long Island to Arizona to learn about the realities of the US-Mexico border and what drives migrants to the US in spite of the inherent dangers.

The delegation, sponsored by the Hagedorn Foundation, will be facilitated by the educational organizations Witness for Peace and Borderlinks. The group will visit both sides of the border, spending part of its time in the area near Tucson, Arizona, and the other half in Nogales, Mexico.

I’ve had the privilege of being invited to report on the delegation for Long Island Wins, and during our time on the border, I’ll be documenting the experience to share with readers afterward. While I won’t be blogging up-to-the-minute, I should have several video, photo, and audio stories in coming weeks.

I’m excited about the trip, and I look forward to sharing some of our stories once we return.
