Trump Eyes Giving Into AG Demands To End DACA

The Trump Administration is reportedly on the verge of dismantling the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, according to an Axios report citing unidentified sources.

The program has acted as a lifeline for undocumented youth across the U.S. who qualify and have been extremely vetted to participate in the DACA program. Through DACA, they have temporary relief from deportation, can legally work, and obtain a driver license.

The news comes on the heels of the fast approaching Sept. 5 deadline issued by 10 attorneys general, including Texan AG Ken Paxton, pressing Trump to end the program or face a lawsuit.

“The DACA program is currently being seriously threatened. Ending DACA would put nearly one million immigrant DREAMers and their families in grave jeopardy, including approximately 10,000 Long Island DACA recipients,” said Long Island Wins Executive Director Maryann Slutsky.

The potential immense damages from ending DACA are well-documented, with projected economic impacts in the millions, as well as the prospect of ripping apart families here and abroad.

“We must take a stand. We must stand up for Dreamers and insist that DACA be kept in place until Congress enacts a clean version of the DREAM Act or broader immigration reform,” Slutsky said. “We cannot silently stand by as aggressive and cruel efforts are underway to deport millions of hardworking immigrants with deep ties to America.”
