In an editorial today, the New York Times warned that the new “Anti-Immigrant Binge” in Congress poses the danger of “taking that most cursed of American political disagreements, the debate over illegal immigration, and dragging it further toward insanity.”
The San Francisco killing of a young woman by an undocumented immigrant “has energized hard-line Republican lawmakers who have long peddled the false argument that all illegal immigrants are a criminal menace, and that the best way to erase their threat is by new layers of inflexible policing.”
The Times likens the debate in Congress to “the rantings of Donald Trump, who brought his racist roadshow to Laredo, Texas, on Thursday.”
