Last week, the Justice Department sent a morning newsletter to immigration judges which linked to the racist and anti-semitic VDARE website. VDARE is listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. It is named after Virginia Dare, the first white child born in the English colonies. Yesterday, Donald Trump Tweeted a video that used a VDARE logo that appears to have originated from a white nationalist group called The Lion’s Guard. The shadowy Lion’s Guard takes it name from a quote from Italian Fascist Benito Mussolini. The dictator once said, “It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep.” Trump has himself quoted the saying.
This is not the first time Trump has retweeted racism. In July he retweeted Canadian white nationalist Lauren Southern, the popularizer of the idea that a conspiracy is using immigration to replace whites with non-white immigrants. This Great Replacement myth was cited by the El Paso terrorist.
The inclusion of links to VDARE in the Justice Department newsletter may be connected to an effort by the Trump administration intimidate Immigration Judges, some of whom are too devoted to due process to follow the Trump line on rapid deportation. The Trump administration is trying to break the judges union and drive out due process-minded judges.
