Senate Votes Not to Pass Anti-Immigrant DHS Funding Bill

The bill failed to gain the votes needed to pass.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate voted against passing a measure that would have overturned President Barack Obama’s administrative relief program, end the three-year-old DACA program, and bring about a return to separating families through needless deportations.

Obama has already indicated that he will veto any bill that attempts to undo his administrative relief program. And yet, two weeks ago House leaders opted to gamble with our national security by piling on anti-immigrant amendments on to the must-pass DHS funding bill that expires February 27, 2015, knowing it would never pass the Senate and would be vetoed by the President even if it did.

Instead of wasting time on reckless and irresponsible legislation, our elected officials should work towards passing comprehensive immigration reform that includes all 11 million aspiring Americans.
