Last August the Trump administration announced a new “Public Charge” rule that would have made it harder for people receiving food stamps and a few other programs to immigrate to the United States. The United State District Court in New York issued a preliminary injunction blocking the rule. The Trump administration challenged the injunction in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. This morning the appeals court ruled against the administration allowing the injunction to remain in effect. Further consideration of this matter will take place in February.
So, at least for now, the new Public Charge rule is blocked nationwide.
