Grassroots and service groups concluded an extremely successful voter registration project with their 5,000th new voter registered.  Participating groups included the Health and Welfare Council, the Long Island Immigrant Alliance, CARECEN, Make the Road New York, and Sepa Mujer.

Registration was focused on Suffolk County, which had been the heart of anti-immigrant activism during the administration of county Executive Steve Levy. New voters will help to insure that politicians no longer see a benefit in trying to win elections by stigmatizing immigrants. Now immigrant voters will bite back.
