Meeting on Redistricting in Elmont

Residents across Nassau County are turning out in large numbers to learn about the redistricting process and the ways in which the majority of the County Legislature seems set to pass a set of electoral maps that divides communities and dilutes the voting power of African-Americans, Latinos, and immigrants – all growing populations in the county. With Nassau elected officials refusing to hear and incorporate feedback, the Long Island Civic Engagement Table has joined the Nassau United Redistricting Coalition in taking matters directly to the communities most affected.

Elmont/Valley Stream, one of Nassau’s most vibrant and growing areas, is also one of the most communities most harmed by the proposed Republican maps. This Thursday, February 7th, at 7:30pm at the Elmont Public Library, residents, community leaders, and elected officials will gather to learn about the redistricting process, voice their concerns, and learn about the next steps our coalition is taking to demand accountable government and a redistricting process that protects and empowers communities.
