The Long Island Language Access Coalition, of which I am a proud member is holding a major conference this Friday. Here’s the info:
Long Island Language Advocates Coalition (LILAC) will be holding their first conference titled, “Everyone’s Talking About It: Raising Awareness About Language Access For A Better Long Island.” Kelly Horan Florio of the United States Attorney’s Office, Clare Norins of the New York State Attorney General’s Office, Luis Montes of the Suffolk County Executive’s Office, legal attorneys, public service providers, community advocates and community members will discuss the impact of not providing language access services to Long Island’s Limited English Proficient communities and will develop strategies on how to implement lasting changes in organizational policies and practices. The widespread destruction and devastation felt by Long Islanders after Hurricane Sandy points to the urgent need for language access in the recovery of our communities.
