A new poll from the Marist Institute shows very low approval for Donald Trump’s newly declared National Emergency. Only 36% approve of the declaration by Trump last Friday, while 61% disapprove. Among Independents, only 33% approve and 63% disapprove.

58% of Americans say that there is no National Emergency at the border. 57% said that they thought that Trump is misusing presidential power in declaring the emergency. Only Republicans supported the declaration.

“All things related to the declaring of a national emergency, the president is striking out in the court of public opinion,” Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, which conducted the survey told NPR, “He’s maintaining his base and little else.”
