Join advocates on Saturday, June 30, for a rally against family separation and the criminalization of immigrants at the Nassau County Correctional Center at 100 Carman Avenue in East Meadow at 5 p.m. The action will be one of many around the country, aligned with a national day of action in support of keeping families together.
There will also be a massive rally hosted by the New York Immigration Coalition and other allies on Saturday, June 30, starting at Foley Square in Manhattan at 10 a.m. From there, thousands will march across the Brooklyn Bridge to Cadman Plaza for the rally and program. There are an estimated 2,300 children who have been separated from their families since U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued his zero-tolerance policy in May that criminally prosecutes anyone who crosses the border unauthorized, including if it means ripping children away from their families. Since then, we have learned that about 700 of the children are residing in New York State, Gov. Andrew Cuomo stated in published reports. Of those, eight are living in Long Island in the care of MercyFirst, based in Syosset.
