There are an estimated 2,300 children who have been separated from their families since U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued his zero-tolerance policy in May that criminally prosecutes anyone who crosses the border unauthorized, including if it means ripping children away from their families. Since then, we have learned that about 700 of the children are residing in New York State, Gov. Andrew Cuomo stated in published reports. Of those, eight are living in Long Island in the care of MercyFirst, based in Syosset.
