The following is a statement by Long Island Wins Executive Director Maryann Sinclair Slutsky on yesterday’s statement by House Speaker John Boehner about the prospects for comprehensive immigration reform in the House of Representatives this year.
“Speaker Boehner just cast a vote for the broken immigration status quo—a failing system that leaves millions of Americans and thousands of Long Islanders unable to contribute fully to American life. The vast majority of Long Islanders want an accountable system that allows for an earned path to citizenship. We ask that Speaker Boehner rethink his priorities and get to work on the comprehensive and accountable system we so desperately need.”
