Whether your ancestors came from the Emerald Isle or elsewhere, you’ll have the chance to share your immigrant heritage during the interactive theater presentation “From Ireland to Long Island: What’s Your Story?” in Hampton Bays on March 6 at 3pm.

The performance, led by an improvisational theater group, encourages Long Islanders to become the tellers of their family history.

PATCHOGUE, NY – JANUARY 25, 2011 – The Hampton Bays Public Library and ImprovTheater- Playback Theater Long Island will be presenting an interactive performance titled “From Ireland to Long Island:  What’s your story?  Cead Mile Failte!  A hundred thousand welcomes!”  All members of the community are invited to attend, free of charge.

Who:  ImprovTheater- Playback Theater Long Island
What:  From Ireland to Long Island:  What’s your story?
When:  Sunday March 6, 2011, 3pm
Where: Hampton Bays Public Library, 52 Ponquogue Avenue, Hampton Bays
Cost:  Free to the public

This will be a performance reminiscing about the families of the community, their history in Ireland and their transition to living on Long Island.  Members of the audience will recall their family’s history in Ireland and their transition to living on Long Island.  Audience members are invited to become the “Teller” of a heritage story, memory or experience with those in attendance.  ImprovTheater actors will not come prepared with a script; instead the actors and musicians will use music, dance and improvisational theater to then transform the audiences’ experience into the art of theater!  The audience will be sharing their joys, sorrows, hardships and successes.

Everyone is welcome to attend and share their personal experience or that of a relative or friend from yesterday to a hundred years ago.  All stories of coming to Long Island are welcomed to be shared, not only those of Irish descent.  The audience will share or listen and learn; everyone is welcome to join ImprovTheater and the Hampton Bays Library for this exciting and moving interactive performance!

ImprovTheater is a Playback Theater ensemble rooted in ancient story-telling traditions.  Audience members become the “teller” and share their stories, memories, and dreams.  Playback Theater empowers young and mature audiences alike with the skills and confidence to build social, artistic, educational and cultural understanding and awareness by transforming the “Teller’s” experience into the art of theater.  There are over 100 Playback Theaters performing in over 50 countries world-wide!

ImprovTheater Founder and Producing Director Paul McIsaac is an actor and director whose work often has a strong community and educational component.  Paul also directs PlaybackNYC, a NYC based Playback Theater ensemble that he co-founded in 1998.
